Unfortunately, car accidents happen every day, and it’s important to know what to do in a serious situation like this. If you haven’t thought about what to do after a car accident occurs, here is great way to start! Here are some tips on how to handle yourself after a car accident and how to handle a collision repair. This gives you all of the steps, so you know what to do and how to safely take care of everything you need!

We at Harris Automotive are here for all of your collision repair needs!

-Make sure everyone is okay.

After a collision, it can be hard to respond quickly. First, check to see if everyone in the car is all right. Call 9-1-1 right away, even if you do not know how major an injury is. It’s always best to call anyway! Many car accident injuries can end up being internal injuries, so don’t hesitate to get help right away. If everyone seems okay and you know you can all move well, move straight to safety!

-Take a breath and relax.

Sometimes emotions get the best of us in tough situations. In a moment like this, just remember to breathe and give yourself grace. It’s best to keep things as calm and as peaceful as you can after such a traumatic event. Your focus should be on making sure everyone is okay.

-Call the police and file a report.

The next thing to do is call the police as soon as you can, so they can help. Do this even in a minor car accident! Once they arrive, you will fill out an accident report and provide accident information, and so will the other driver. You will need the following to show the police:

-Your driver’s license

-Your address

-A statement that shows your financial responsibility for the car

-Your vehicle registration card

-Get the other driver’s Information.

While you’re waiting for the police, it’s important to get the other driver’s information. Make sure to get their contact information as well for any collision repair needs. Also, be cautious about any information you give to them. Do not give anyone your documents or provide your social security number to anyone except the police.

-Visit your doctor.

Even if your car collision was minor, a great thing to do is to get a quick checkup by your doctor! This will give you and your family the confidence you need to know that you’re 100 percent well.
